Firms about to go public zip up and hide during a so-called “quiet period” – but don’t blame the SEC.

Like X-ray glasses and anti-gravity boots, pre-IPO “quiet periods” seem to defy the laws of nature. Normally, startups will do anything to grab attention. Short of dressing a CEO in a chicken suit, no gimmick is too extreme if it generates brand-building buzz and helps a young company stand out.

January 11, 2012

You might read for 200 pages or so before you’ll get it. My books are about relationships and you can’t make a relationship on sex — that’s only a part of it. My characters do a lot of caring and communicating. They demonstrate their commitment before they’re intimate because you can’t have intimacy without trust. (more…)

Fred was just getting his gym off the ground — so things were a little tight financially — and I was swamped at work. I hadn’t made any special plans and he never let on that he’d made any, either. The Day I Decided To Live, Part 3

December 14, 2011

About a year and a half ago I started to become ill again, too ill. All the tests performed by specialists would only show that my internal organs were failing. I could no longer digest food, except very rarely. I could eat only one small meal daily, which usually consisted of a jar or two of baby food. I was in severe pain all the time, especially when I ate. The tests revealed that I would die within three months, probably sooner because there was nothing anyone could do, because no one could find the cause. I was actually happy. It was about time! All my life I had wanted to die. No more pain. No more sadness. No more being used by others. (more…)
